Our Approach to Writing

We follow a message-based approach to writing. This approach prioritizes clear and concise ideas, or messages, and ensures that every element of the text supports and reinforces these core messages. This method enhances the reader’s comprehension and engagement, as it eliminates extraneous information that can detract from the main point. By focusing on a singular message, the writer can more effectively inform the reader and enhance their understanding of the research’s central findings. A message-based approach to writing improves the report’s clarity, leaves a stronger impression on the audience, and improves the likelihood that the reader will remember a message and act upon it. Organizing reports around messages also limits repetition and superfluous information. As such, it can drastically reduce the length of reports, making them more readable and enjoyable.

Provide us the pieces, and we’ll write the report you want.

We specialize in crafting compelling reports from our clients’ existing research and original drafts. Oftentimes, our clients find themselves grappling with a multitude of inputs from diverse work streams, unsure of how to consolidate them effectively. We offer a solution by meticulously analyzing the data on their behalf and synthesizing these inputs into a unified, message-driven document. In other instances, clients enlist teams to draft reports, only to discover that the final product falls short of expectations. These reports may suffer from issues such as subpar writing, inadequate analysis, or ineffective presentation. In such cases, task managers face the daunting task of quickly rewriting these documents to meet the expectations of their intended audiences. We are equipped to assist in these scenarios as well, swiftly transforming substandard reports into high-quality, message-centric publications.

The Writing Process

1. The Client Provides Original Inputs

These can include raw data, case studies, background papers, or other supporting records. It could also simply be an original report that needs major improvements.

2. Analyze the Data and Review Inputs

The editor will help the authors create a content plan to structure the report around key messages. This plan will act as a writing guide or outline for the authors.

3. Develop a Content Plan

Based on our analysis and review, we will develop a message-based outline, or content plan that will guide our writing.

4. Write the Draft

Once the client agrees to the content plan, we will draft a full report that follows a message-driven structure.

5. Revise the Draft

After we produce a first draft, the client will have a chance to review it, provide feedback, and discuss potential changes. We will then update the draft according to this feedback.

6. Copy Edit the Draft and Finalize

Once the client is happy with the draft, we finalize it with a copy edit and develop supplemental materials such as executive summaries, overviews, press releases, or other documents.

7. Design and Formatting

If the client wants to publish the report, we can outsource design and formatting services that emphasize our message-based approach to report writing.
